From Costa Rei to Cagliari, about 75 km (48 mi). 50 kph (30 mph) headwinds, swirling and spinning around the coastal cliffs. Sometimes it was easier to walk down-hill than fight the gusts. But the scenery was stunning, the cold beer under the umbrellas in Cagliari well, well worth it.
And, offered with little further commentary, the last photo from Sardinia…
Today we rode from Santa Maria Navarrese to the beaches at Costa Rei. The day was mostly on smaller roads, paralleling the newer main highway, with little traffic, beautiful tailwinds, and only moderate climbing.
The town of Jerzu, high on the hillside. Jerzu is the source of many of Sardinia’s berettas, snap-brim caps, one of which I am now the proud owner.
Scotch Broom in full bloom lined vast stretches of the roads
Oranges, free for the taking
Prickly Pear cactus, used as fences in some older fields, was also in full bloom
At the end of the day, the sea at Costa Rei
